HOW TO MEASURE A WINDOW HANDLE

STEP 1 : IDENTIFY THE WINDOW HANDLE

The first step is to identify the type of window handle you currently have. There are two designs to choose

from - the older style cockspur handles, and their more modern replacement; the espag handle.

The window handle at the top is a cockspur handle. These handles have a triangular protrusion which closes over the frame to secure it closed in place.
On the bottom is an espag handle. These handles have a spindle that fits into the window locking mechanism.

STEP 2 : COCKSPUR HANDLES

For cockspur window handles, there are two important elements to identify: the handing, and the stack height.

Looking at the handle face on, note which side the protrusion is: if it is to the left of the handle this is referred to as a right-handed window handle as the handle pulls up to the right; if it is to the right this is a left-handed window handle as the handle pulls up to the left.

It is then necessary to measure the stack height (A). This is the measurement from the back of the handle - where it attaches to the window - to the back of the spur.

STEP 3 : ESPAG HANDLES

For espag window handles, the two important elements to identify are the handing, and the spindle length (B).

The spindle length is the distance from end to end of the spindle that slots into the locking mechanism. Once you have these measurements, visit our website where you can filter our selection by the sizes available to match your requirements.
